Best Tips for Growing Top-Quality Broccoli Microgreens

Growing high quality broccoli microgreens comes down to quite a few important aspects.

There’s the growing environment, the tray, growing medium (soil), etc.

Obviously, another variable is the farmer involved in the growing process (that’s you).

An experienced farmer will typically produce better quality / higher yielding crops due to their time and effort spent figuring out proper densities, suppliers, growing conditions, mediums, watering schedules, and so much more.

When you’re starting out, you’ll definitely run into problems every now and then too.

To ensure that you’re on your way to growing dense trays of broccoli microgreens, it's best to research and practice often while keeping all these aforementioned aspects in mind.

One of the most important materials used in the growing process are your seeds!

So, in this article we’ll be covering a few things to keep in mind when shopping around for microgreen seeds. In our case, we’ll mostly be referring to certified organic seeds (which we’ll cover a little more later too).

What’s the Difference?

There’s a lot that goes into seed production.

Growing massive amounts of crops while keeping them happy and healthy enough to produce quality seeds is no easy task.

Seed farms are often very massive.

Genetic Purity

High-quality seeds are carefully bred and selected to ensure the best taste, color, and growth rate.

Not only that, but variants are even measured for disease resistance. This ensures that your crops come out healthy and strong, with “built-in pest control”, if you will.

Throughout our years of trial and error and testing out hundreds of batches of seeds, we’ve found germination rate to be vary greatly among certain batches of seed – even when they’re the same variant.

That leads us to a very important aspect of being a successful microgreens farmer.

Consistency

Seeds with careful selection are more guaranteed to be consistent when it comes to growth and germination rates.

When you’re aiming for a perfectly blanketed tray of Broccoli microgreens, germination rate is very important to keep in mind.

Higher quality seeds undergo numerous control measures to ensure that they’re free from contaminants, pests, or diseases.

Lower quality / low germination seeds typically don’t go through as many purity control measures.

Right to the Source

True Leaf Market is one of our preferred sources for seeds:

[Organic] Broccoli Microgreen Seeds.

After testing several variants of many, many, crops and vendors, we’ve found their line of organic seeds to be very consistent.

To be specific, their ‘Broccoli -Waltham 29’ is our preferred variant of Broccoli.

If it’s out of stock, the ‘Broccoli - DiCiccio’ is also a high germinating variant.
